GRE Test Formats
The GRE exam is available in two formats: GRE General Test & GRE Subject Test. Each has a separate GRE syllabus.
- GRE General Test: The General Test is the industry standard exam that assesses students' verbal thinking, mathematical reasoning, and analytical writing abilities.
- GRE Subject Test: A GRE Subject Test may be required by the institution for more specialised courses, as the GRE Subject Test concentrates on assessing the candidate's proficiency in certain disciplines.
GRE Exam Syllabus
The GRE general test has three primary components:
- GRE verbal reasoning,
- GRE quantitative reasoning, and
- GRE analytical writing evaluation.
The GRE score is one of the most essential entrance requirements for higher education in business, engineering, and many other disciplines. The GRE general exam score is acceptable here. The GRE general test syllabus is extensive, and it assesses students' analytical abilities.
GRE Syllabus - Analytical Writing Section
The analytical writing section of the GRE is designed to assess the test taker's ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and effectively, support ideas with relevant reasons and examples, examine claims and accompanying evidence, maintain a well-focused, coherent discussion, and control the elements of standard written English. The GRE Analytical Writing curriculum comprises two thirty-minute analytical writing assignments that are timed separately:
- Analyze an Issue
- Analyze an Argument
GRE Syllabus - Verbal Reasoning Section
The verbal reasoning section assesses the ability of the test taker to analyse and draw conclusions from the discourse, reason from incomplete data, identify the author's assumptions and/or perspective, select important points, distinguish major from minor or relevant points, summarise text, understand the structure of a text, understand the meanings of words, sentences, and entire texts, and understand relationships between words and concepts.

GRE Subject Test Syllabus
The GRE subject examination is a paper-based exam that is only given three times a year. GRE topic examinations are intended for individuals who wish to pursue a higher degree in a certain subject.
This test includes the following subjects:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Literature in English

GRE Biology Syllabus
The exam comprises of around 190 Biology-related five-choice questions. Among the subjects are:
- Cellular and Molecular Biology
- Organismal Biology
- Ecology and Evolution
GRE Chemistry Syllabus
The exam comprises of around 130 multiple-choice questions about the four domains of chemistry that have historically been split.

GRE English Syllabus

GRE Psychology Syllabus
There are around 205 multiple-choice questions in the exam. Each test question offers five possibilities from which the examinee must choose the one that is the correct or best response to the question.

GRE Exam Pattern
Even if one is familiar with the GRE Syllabus and understands all of the answers, failing to manage time might result in an incomplete exam. This is when familiarity with the GRE Exam pattern comes into play. The Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning components of the GRE exam course are the most important. The GRE computer-based test takes three hours and 45 minutes to complete.
GRE Computer Based Test Pattern
Each of these parts is then separated into two sub-sections for the computer-based pattern, totaling forty questions (Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning). The GRE Analytical Writing component consists of only two activities with a time limit of one hour. Aside from these primary portions, the computer-based pattern test includes two extra changeable sections. After the Quantitative Reasoning segment is completed, there is a ten-minute break. These two variable portions, however, Unscored and Research, are not included in the final GRE scores.

GRE Paper Based Test Pattern
The paper-based GRE test schedule comprises two sub-sections for each of the three primary categories: analytical writing, verbal reasoning, and quantitative reasoning. The analytical Writing section consists of two one-hour projects (60 mins). Each portion of Verbal and Quantitative reasoning has two sections and 50 questions, with a maximum time restriction of 60 and 70 minutes, respectively. The paper-based test does not contain the variable components Unscored and Research.
