IELTS is one of the most popular English proficiency tests accepted by almost all universities worldwide. The minimum score requirement will vary depending on the university, course and program you choose. Since Australia is an English-speaking nation, you need to prove your English proficiency via IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE exam to study, work, or migrate to Australia as an overseas citizen. IELTS is a widely accepted test worldwide and is one of the easily acceptable tests in Australian universities.
Do you know the minimum IELTS score accepted by Australian universities? Do you wish to know the IELTS test pattern?
The answers to these questions and much more can be obtained from this blog. You can read the blog completely and learn everything you need to know.Expanded to the International English Language Testing System, the IELTS exam is designed to help you work, study or migrate to a nation where English is the native language. The exam is divided into four sections, reading, writing, speaking, and listening, which test your language proficiency. The IELTS exam scores are scaled between 1 and 9, with nine being exceptional and one being poor. It is accepted by top-ranked universities and colleges worldwide. It is a well-known exam in nations such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK, and the USA. IDP Education conducts this test in India. To get admission or for immigration purposes, the IELTS has become a general eligibility guideline. IELTS can be taken multiple times across the year, and you can attempt it unlimited times.
Exemption from IELTS: You may obtain an IELTS waiver if one of the following conditions are met. There are two IELTS categories for Australia – IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. The General Training Test is used for migration purposes, and the Academic is for entry into a university or college. The minimum score is 6.0 for General Training, while if you wish to study UG or PG degree, we recommend at least an overall score average of 6.5 points with no individual band score less than 6.0. However, please note that we have given only the general criteria, and the IELTS score entirely depends on the university and program you enrol in. For example, in some universities and programs, you may get entry with an IELTS score as low as 5.5; in others, even a score of 7.5 won't be satisfactory. Also note that you need to focus on scoring high in individual bands as well, as some universities also have a minimum set for section-wise scores.
As mentioned before, the IELTS exam is categorised into listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Each unit has different question types and a duration within which you need to complete each. The total time of an IELTS exam is around 2 hours and 45 minutes. We have provided the details below.
